How to play News Time

Begin the game by pressing PLAY. You are then shown the category selection screen. Choose from the following categories;

A-Z
People and Places
Science and Nature
Showbiz
Pot Luck
Sport
Headlines
Funnies
Mystery

The number of points associated with a category is shown. You will need to correctly answer all the questions in a category in order to win the points shown. Your points will accumulate on a “Points Bar”. The “Points Bar” will increment across the bottom of the screen scrolling from left to right and eventually reaching collectable cash values. Once a cash value has been reached, you may collect, or continue playing on for further prizes.

Penalties

An incorrectly answered question will also result in “Game Over” unless you have a “Try Again” available (represented by ‘on air’ symbols in the bottom right of the game screen). Try again will let you choose another answer to the question again. The game begins with three “Try Again” already awarded and if lost additional try agains can be won via the mystery round and up to a maximum of up to 3 can be held at any one time.

Time Limit

You must take care to answer the questions within the time limit in the bottom left of the game window. If you fail to answer on time the game is over. If you fail to choose a category within the time limit one will be chosen at random for you.

Mystery ??? Symbol Options

Occasionally one of the grid squares will contain a “???” mystery symbol. If you select a mystery symbol, you are offered a skill choice on one of the following;

Skip Question: A question from the round is skipped (player selectable).

Skip Two Questions: Two questions from the round are skipped (player selectable).

Super Try Again: Sets the number of Try Agains to maximum (3).

Try Again: Adds one Try Again.

Spot Prize: Awards the indicated prize.

Lose Try Again: Deducts one Try Again.

Game Over: Terminates the game.

Extra Points: A random amount of extra points are awarded

Four of the above mystery options will be shown on the screen. They will then shuffle around the screen. Watch closely, you should try to pick the option most valuable to you. Beware, not all of them are good!

Bonus Rolling Jackpot

Certain Categories & Mystery Options randomly have a ‘News Time’ symbol attached to them. These contribute towards winning the Rolling Jackpot. This is a bonus prize that is awarded if you collect the indicated numbers of symbols. If gained from the category screen you will still be required to answer the subsequent questions. If you win the jackpot, you can still continue to play for further prizes. The rolling jackpot is never gambled, if won this is yours no matter what happens later in the game. The jackpot amount is shown to the right of the game screen.

Collecting

You can collect your current winnings at the category screen stage by pressing COLLECT. When you win a prize you have the option to collect or continue. If you continue then you gamble your current normal winnings against potential bigger prizes further in the game. On pressing collect, winnings will automatically be added to your account. The game ends under the following conditions;

- When you win the top prize as indicated on the point’s bar.
- Collect any winnings.
- Do not answer a question within the time limit. Normal winnings are lost.
- Lose all your lives. Normal winnings are lost.
- Answer a question incorrectly when you have no try agains remaining. Normal winnings are lost.
- Select the ‘Game Over’ mystery option. Normal winnings are lost.

‘Normal Winnings’ means prize amounts won by progressing along the points bar. Spot Prizes and the rolling jackpot do not count as normal prizes. If won these can never be lost and are automatically added to your account when the game ends.
